Review/Fantasy “Knights of the Wraithmaker,” by Melanie Doan

Reagan Colby and Benko Wyatt, best friends and fellow squires in the Academy of Knights in Nitedque, must work together with others who may or may not be on the same side as them to save Nitedque. As the Wraithmakers are devouring souls to build their army in the Sindycate, Reagan and her best friend Benko, who have made a blood oath to become life mates when she turns seventeen in a couple of years, must find a way to defeat them. Reagan is one of the best swordsmen in the Academy of Knights in her age group, despite being female. Magick is banned in Nitedque and so Reagan must be careful of keeping her majick under wraps as she practices to become stronger at it while keeping it secret. The magick leaves her vulnerable to Death, leader of the Sindycate, and she faints when a wraithmaker gets too close to Nitedque. The fainting spells come quicker and quicker leaving her with the knowledge that time is running out. Reagan lost her mother as a young child and she discovers that she has a connection to King Conrad Godwin that she never could have imagined – one that makes her understand why her oldest brother, Draven seemingly hated her from the days she was born. Her remaining family is also part of the King’s army trying to protect Nitedque from the Sindycate and an oncoming war seems inevitable. Follow Reagan and Benko as they try to avert a war between Nitedque and the Sindycate. Despite Magick being banned we meet others who still practice it in secret. Despite the fact that I do not like fantasy books for the most part, this book held my interest and I would highly recommend you read it if you are looking for a quick read and like fantasy books dealing with magick. The book moves at a great pace and is easy to follow. Get your copy on Amazon.

I write a lot of my stories as serial stories using prompts. I have many different stories, the longest one is 50 parts if I am not mistaken. My current one is here and still in progress. You can use this post to start with part one and work your way through and then go directly to that blog and continue it.

This blog contains several serial stories and I used a lot of them in varying sizes in my very first novel which will eventually go online on the newest blog http://www.tessadeanauthor.com and then if I continue writing novels as a series I have several longer serial stories on that same blog as that is the one I update all the time. I don’t update this one very often. Those serial stories contain the middle of a possible novel and need both a beginning and an end. As most prompt sites request family-friendly work I will be updating those stories to murder or mystery stories and definitely on the dark side. So you can see why these aren’t quite as dark as they could be. I don’t go into much detail. Book One/Intro To The Possible Series is not a dark murder mystery as I am just getting used to writing that genre and I don’t think I know enough to make it a psychological thriller/murder/suspense story.

April 15, 10 year WordPress anniversary!

I knew it was almost 10 years although I wasn’t sure just how close it was. I got the notification today. I have 3 blogs, and this one is the newest. The first one I hardly post on anymore and the same with the second. Most of my posts are on the new one, this one.

If you’re looking for some some horror prompts, check out Laura Nettles’s Blog

I know a lot of you are writers following me, but not sure how many of you are horror writers. If you are looking for good horror prompts check out Laura Nettles Blog. She has only been writing horror short stories since August, but her detail is wonderful and quite scary. He prompts are almost short stories in themselves and quite detailed.

Laura’s daytime job is lighting on some of your favorite monster movies and tv shows and now she has started writing horror short stories and loves it. She has one story currently published in an anthology and is working on her own anthology.

This link above will take you to the first page of prompts. 20 of them to be exact. Next Saturday and the one after she plans to publish another 20 each time. So if you are a horror writer or wannabe, check them out and see if you can find a few to write a short story or even a novel from them. She has quite an imagination and is great with the details and description.

Out of the Ashes

I didn’t feel as if I had anything left to live for. My mental anguish made daily living unbearable.

Bipolar Disorder 1 with psychosis, Borderline Personality Disorder among other Personality Disorders (there are many, not just one), Severe Anxiety so bad that I was terrified of people, new places and even getting up in the morning, along with Panic Attacks that would stop me dead in my tracks were just a few of my mental issues. I also suffer from severe OCD so bad that I have trouble leaving my house because I am sure the door is unlocked and the stove still on, no matter how many times I got out of my car and check the door lock and stove. I have PTSD which started due to several rape attempts when I was a teenager and then when the twin towers fell in 2001 I was sure every…

Tresspassing

by Teresa Smeigh May 2020

John was perched precariously on the stone and casting his line deep into the causeway. He ignored the sign saying “Private Property! No Fishing Off the Rocks!” and kept on casting out his line.

His boat, the “Jenny Lee,” named after his wife who lost her battle with cancer last year, was anchored about 50 feet out in the deeper waters of the causeway. The sun was shining on the boat, and she had a fresh coat of paint. He admired her for a few minutes before returning to casting off again. So far, he hadn’t caught anything, but he just wanted something to occupy his mind so he wouldn’t dwell on Jenny Lee’s last days. He and Jenny Lee had often gone fishing all over the coast. Sometimes taking a long trip, just the two of them and talked about their future together long before the cancer struck.

John knew he wasn’t supposed to be fishing here. He could read the sign, but he just wanted to see if there was anything worth catching. He wasn’t sure who the property belonged to, but he had never seen a living soul whenever he ran his boat down this way. It was a beautiful place, and Jenny Lee always loved their time running up and down the causeway.

A shot rang out, and John ducked and turned. There were three angry men with guns aimed at him coming down the strip of land. Another shot rang out, and John dropped his rod and dove into the water and swam as fast as he could. Another shot rang out not far from him. He grabbed the boat and hauled himself up and quickly started the engine.

He made a run for it and hoped none of the shots hit his boat. He was thankful Jenny Lee wasn’t with him today. He would be lucky to get out of here alive. Another shot passed real close to his head, and he could see the three men were getting closer to the tip of the land.

The next shot hit the gas tank, and the boat exploded with a mighty roar. John was thrown free of his boat and started to swim as fast as he could. If he could just make it to the other side of the causeway to another piece of land, he stood a chance of getting away since the men didn’t have a boat to follow him in.

Climbing up the rocks to the land, he quickly ran through the rocks and headed for the forest on the other side. He didn’t hear any more shots, and he breathed a sigh of relief. Hopefully, the men thought they got him and had gone home.

He walked through the woods until he reached a road. He followed it until a truck came by. Hoping it wasn’t his friends with the guns, he put his thumb out for a ride.

The truck stopped, and three men were inside. His heart started to pound. He couldn’t tell if it was them or not. The man closest to him pulled out a gun and shot him and fatally wounded him. He was on his way to be with Jenny Lee.

Chapter 6 – Cruelty to Animals (Government Property: A Memoir of a Military Wife)

To read previous chapters click here for the list of chapters or click on the link at the top that says “Government Property-A Memoir Of A Military Wife.”

Chapter Six

Cruelty to Animals

The last base housing we lived in was on Daphne Court. I remembered that street name as I always liked the name Daphne. Daphne Court was a real court with several sections of row houses, six to a set, all around in the shape of a court. Our street did not go through to the base. We had to go to the highway, which intersected Daphne Court and turn right. We would drive down and do a U-Turn and head back up the freeway to the base.

Now, these were excellent housing units. They were for the higher-ranked enlisted men. These were much bigger than the ones the lower-ranked enlisted in the military got and better for the most part. They had much larger rooms and a separate laundry room, which we didn’t have in the old ones. The only reason we were there was that they were tearing our old units down for a huge parking lot for a store they were putting in on base.

We had large screened-in back porches, and we were on the corner, so we also had a side yard as well as the front and back yards. Behind us was another street, and the rears of those row homes faced us.

One of the higher enlisted men had a boxer. He was a beautiful copper color and a powerful animal. The owner, a man with broad shoulders and a well-muscled chest, was so cruel to that animal. We all complained to someone on base at one time or another about the cruelty. We half expected him to kill it eventually. He dragged it around by its chain and lifted it into the air, so it hung on the chain and beat it. Some of the men confronted him, but nothing was ever done by authorities to intervene on that poor animal’s behalf.

We had two mutts ourselves. We kept them in the screened-in porch when we went somewhere as the door would lock from the inside. One day, they managed to get the door open. They broke the lock. They must have headed for the highway and made it across. A workman over there recognized the dogs, and he and a friend brought them back. When they realized we weren’t home and that the dogs had broken out of the porch, they took them back with them and left us a note. We couldn’t keep them on the porch anymore. It just wasn’t safe for them.

We had a mother and one of her puppies. Now the puppy was sometimes put out on a stake and chain. One day we caught the neighbor’s children torturing her. These children were black. They beat the dog and then ran to a few feet outside of her reach. We had no idea how long this had gone on. We stopped putting the dog out on a chain at all, once we found out what they were doing.

Now flashing forward four or five years later to when we were back and living in New Jersey after he got out of the military, we put up a fence for the dogs to be able to run around loose. We hadn’t thought that entirely through. Kennels were so expensive, but we had this fencing, and so we put the dogs out there.

One day I hear a man’s voice yelling, “Lady, lady, please come get your dog.” I was mystified, but then I heard him calling again. I hesitantly looked out the door, and here was the meter reader pinned against the meter by our dog. She was a big dog and hopping mad. It suddenly dawned on me the man was black and the same race as those children who had tormented her all those years before. She was ready to tear him apart and had dug out from under the fence. I finally managed to pull her off and take her into the house.

Now, this wasn’t the man’s fault, but the dog didn’t know any better. The meter reader was black, and the dog remembered the black kids tormenting her, and she never forgot. We had to get a real kennel after that. You can train an animal to be mean. They do remember. Those kids took a friendly dog and made it mean if you happened to be a black person. She was lovable as all get out to everyone else.
